As a family of 5 I find the standard wheelie bin, which I believe is 140 ltr capacity, unable to accept anything more than 3 standard size black plastic bin bags. To make matters worse my Council do not take away any black plastic bags that will not fit in the wheelie bin and permit the lid to close.
I have rasied my concerns with the Lib-Dem Councillor who holds the portfolio for re-cycling and he has been most unhelpful and only quotes the party line; he had no helpful or practical or helpful advice to offer. Moreover, when I asked him for details of groups such as yourselves he affected to know of none - but surely as a Councillor representing the public it should be his responsibility to aid and assist them.
However !!!!! I have now found my own solution, which is to decant of each plastic bin bag directly into the bin and throw the empty bag after it. This hugely increases the capacity of the bin. [/b][/u]

There is a precedent following a ruling a few months ago that councils must provide an adequate sized receptacle for domestic waste.

The general rules in our borough stipulate a 140 litre bin for a 2 person household and a 240 litre bin for households with 3 or more people.  To expect a household of 5 people to manage with a 140 litre bin for a fortnight is, in our opinion, unreasonable.

If you are placing loose material in your bin to extend capacity there is a real chance you will experience maggot infestations in the warmer weather.

Please e-mail me at doretta@weeklywaste.com if you would like any further assistance.

Of dear! Sadly you have wasted your time herein. That is standard policy for that crew and sadly more and more people, who have previously been hoodwinked by their pathetic spin-doctoring, are coming to realise it. They like to display a public ‘pleasant’ middle of the road stance, yet behind the scenes they are the worst type of dictators imaginable.

Liberal and Democratic? No - tyrannical and inflexible!

You don’t even need to believe me – just press that LibDem councillor a little harder, be critical of his stance in the press and watch the bully-boy reaction you get!

Personally I would go farther and say its diabolical, unhygienic and a retrograde step enforced by rank dictators that takes families back to the Dark Ages.
