Thanks to all our new members following the recent press articles and coverage on local and national news programmes.

We are receiving so many e-mails from residents experiencing problems with alternate weekly collections. It is important to estimate the extent of the "summer problems" which we believe are far more common than councils will admit.

Please e-mail doretta@weeklywaste.com if you have experienced any of the following:

Maggot infestations in wheeled bins

An increase in flies around bins

Rat and mice infestations (in homes and gardens)

If you are taking excess waste to civic amenity sites because your Council will not collect bins without closed lids or collect extra bags

If you are paying a private contractor to take general waste away on the weeks councils do not collect

If you have complained to your Council and their response to your complaint

If you have been fined for any waste-related "offence"

If we lived in France we would have up to three general waste collections per week and 1 recycling collection per week. In other European countries residents can expect a similar service for far less council tax (or equivalent local tax) than we pay. World-wide it is not uncommon for daily refuse collections to be undertaken e.g. Singapore.

There are more reported verbal and physical assaults on refuse collectors here. Please do not blame them - they do not make policy, your local Councillors do!
