Pay as you throwThe Local Government Association has stated that a majority of 1028 people polled are in favour of "pay as you throw". We find this difficult to believe especially as any council tax savings would be minimal.
No doubt charges would have to be introduced at civic amenity sites so that people could not escape payment. Administration would be costly and if invoices have to be sent on a quarterly basis, paper generation would be increased at a time when we are all told this is not environmentally friendly.
Evidence in Eire suggests PAYT leads to increased fly tipping and backyard burning.

The Local Governmental Association continues to call these schemes "save as you throw". Forgive us for being cynical!
