Spelthorne

We have been advised that we are to have fortnightly collections from 24th September! (just in time for the winter).

Guess what the top tips are? I quote "food rubbish tends to smell less when wrapped in newspaper" "some essential oils such as citronella and tea tree oil are natural insect repellants. If flies are a problem try smearing your wheelie bin lid with one of these oils but please do not use if you are pregnant"
"The council will have the bins "chipped" at the outset as it is cheaper to do it then rather than later on."

At the moment we have a fortnightly recycle "blue Bin" collection which takes cans, bottles, paper, aerosol cans & aluminium foil. When we have the new recycling I notice that aluminium foil and aerosol cans are no longer recyclable.

Words fail me!

Local Press

Well I used Doretta's standard letter and sent it to the Council with a copy to our local newspaper. The Surrey Herald have contacted me today to do a feature on it!
Doretta

Thank you, Sandra, for your comments and well done on your success with the local press. A lot of local newspapers run polls which usually are in favour of retaining weekly collections - 80% for weekly is quite usual.

Have Spelthorne residents been consulted about this change in policy?

They should be made aware that 11 councils have reverted back to weekly collections following either trials or fully implemented schemes. We hope more will follow this summer, especially if the predicted high temperatures cause the problems we are acquainted with!
