Waste collection in SpainThought it might be of interest to your campaign to note that here (JAVEA ALICANTE SPAIN) our waste is collected EVERY DAY ,usually at 2 am from large wheely bins that serve about 6 or 7 house/villas but also at something like 15 sites where there are 2 large bins for bottles,2 large bins for plastics,2 for paper and cardboard, 6 for general waste,and a lorry sized skip for garden waste ,hedge trimmings etc,and an area set aside for all other household waste ,tvs,old furniture etc,so as a result there is almost no "Fly tipping " because people know where to get rid of waste.I have just received my bill for rubbish collection................71 euros..........less than £60.00!! The average council tax for a Band D home in the UK is more than £1000 per annum. Although only a small percentage represents charges for refuse collection many residents feel services have declined. We now have "pay as you throw" to look forward to. We will be charged separately per kilo for the non-recyclable waste we throw away. In Ireland this system has caused fly tipping and back garden burning on a huge scale. A worrying thought that this may happen in the UK. |
