weeklywaste government petition not found in main listHi,
Is it me or is the Weeklywaste petition not listed under and category at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/list
Obviously if no one can find it then this will mean less signatures...
Keep up the good work Doretta and everyone else !!!

Thanks, John, - there is a direct link to the petition under "announcements" - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/WeeklyRubbish/
There are several other petitions asking for weekly waste collections.
The above link goes straight to the petition set up by Mr Eric Murray of CROW (Collect Refuse in Oxford Weekly) and specifically asks that the Environmental Protection Act 1990 is amended to ensure weekly collections for all UK residents.

Hi Doretta,
Thanks for the reply, I've already signed the petition using the direct link.
My concern was why is the petition not to be found (as far as I can tell) by browsing the various categories from the main menu of petitions. That way other people that are not aware of this website may decide to add their vote and bump up the vote count. 1000 odd votes is good but I suspect there are way more people than 1000 that are very unhappy with their waste collection services (or lack of )
Cheers

There certainly are more than 1000 as our membership shows!
This petition is in the category "Health, well-being and care" but it could also have been submitted to either the "Government" or "Environment" categories - the issues overlap all of these.
We believe that public health is being compromised as is the health of the refuse collectors - reports from home and abroad appear to confirm our fears but the Government is not listening. The one report Defra commissioned earlier this year concentrated on an area - High Wycombe -where food waste can be collected weekly. Not representative at all of most areas where fortnightly general waste collections are in operation.

I was referring to the vote count of 1,150 on the petition, it would be better if it was a lot more.
I've found the petition as you say under Health, well-being and care, to me a more logical place would of been under Environment plus the petition title doesn't stand out. Although I understand where you're coming from in terms of making it a health issue - which I 100% agree that is is (as well as many other aspects).
In general the recycling and waste collection where I live has been poorly thought through. I fill my red bin in a week or less but it's only collected every 2 weeks, which means the overflow goes into the black bin (yes I can request another red bin but why not just have a normal wheely bin ? perhaps with compartments or trays for the different recycle items) On a windy day the red boxes get blown all over the road creating an accident waiting to happen. We are now being told that soon we will be able to put glass bottles in the red bin and make them fit by sqeezing the plastic bottles (oh dear ). The garden bin is empty for half the year, meaning wasting money attempting to collect garden waste that most residents don't have for 6 months. We have bags for paper and cardboard, most items you buy the bulk comes from polystyrene, which can't be put into the black bin because it would overfil it, so I have to make a trip down to the local council tip (wastiing my time, petrol and creating C02). I could go on I really hope someone at the council sees some sense and go back to weekly collections.
Cheers

John, I agree that it should perhaps be under "Environment" - my petition to the European Parliament was submitted under their "Environmental Protection" category. This website was set up prior to the PM Petitions facility and we already had many thousands of members at that time.
Your scheme sounds rather complicated - adding glass to mixed collections can contaminate other dry recyclables and it is not generally recommended. In some areas garden waste collections cease in October until the following Spring and a few councils revert to weekly collections of general waste during the winter months. There are so many variations - it is difficult to keep up!! A UK standard would be desirable but that would be too simple!!
Our neighbouring borough, Test Valley, used to have twin bodied vehicles where both recycling materials and general waste could be collected at the same time. Unfortunately, they have now gone to alternate weekly collections so we no longer envy their previous excellent service!
